New Army for the New Year!

Hello it's been awhile! My eBay store has almost sold out of its yearly haul, but there are a few random Eldar and dark Eldar items still up for sale.  Check out the link on the right if you're looking for some good deals!

Since my last post I went and started writing articles for Bell of Lost Souls.  I've only written 2 so far, but will write more as I get some more free time.  They were on The Art of Mental Training and touched on the psychological / mental components of gaming.  They may not appeal to a wide audience, but I think there are some who appreciate them.  I will repost them here for my own reference after the new year.

I've also started a new army.  Things got a little stagnant with my Eldar and Dark Eldar.  I played Dark Eldar almost exclusively during 5th, and Eldar since the new Codex came out.  It was time for a change!  So I made a pretty big change and started up ..... TYRANIDS!!!

Here is the army I've been running lately:

Hive Tyrant: twin-linked devourer with brainleech worms; twin-linked devourer with brainleech worms; wings; electroshock grubs 240
Hive Tyrant: twin-linked devourer with brainleech worms; twin-linked devourer with brainleech worms; wings; electroshock grubs 240

3 Ripper Swarms: Deep Strike 45

Malanthrope 85

Dimachareon 200

Tyrannocyte 75

Barbed Hierodule 565

Hive Tyrant: twin-linked devourer with brainleech worms; twin-linked devourer with brainleech worms; wings; electroshock grubs 240

1 Mucolid Spore Cluster 15

Void Shield Generator: 2× additional projected void shield 100

This army packs a pretty nasty punch.  I've tried variations with 4 or 5 Flyrants, and those are pretty nasty too.  I'll post some battle report summaries as they come in.  This army is such a far detachment from Eldar and Dark Eldar - I think it'll be a nice counterbalance for them.

  1. I like your list. One of the fundamental problems with the tyrants, is their best weapon has no effect on AV13, so when they come across certain armies, they'll be relying on the haywire templates to do damage...which can get them into trouble really fast.

You went with a much more balanced list (vs taking 5), which i think will pay you massive dividends. Why the void generator?

  2. Yeah, I have found the Barbed Hierodule to be great at taking out AV12+. However the list still struggles against armies with mass 2+ saves.

The Void Shield Generator is great. It allows me to go 2nd and not have to worry about giving up first blood. All my stuff is pretty hard to kill anyway (2+ cover save in ruins by a Malanthrope), but the Void Shield Generator gives me the extra security. I highly recommend them and may consider taking them in my Eldar lists as well.

    1. If the event didn't have first blood, would you remove it?

I've seen some events changing first blood to "uncontested blood" or something similar. Each player can get the point, it's just killing a unit without your opponent killing one in their turn. WAY harder to get then first blood (can't just throw away a unit for that point!)

  3. I haven't run into that yet. Still, the Void Shield Generator offers some nice protection as anything under S6 is rendered ineffective against anything of mine inside the bubble. S6 is only moderately effective as my opponent needs to roll 6's to get past the projected void shield.

    1. Excellent point. I might consider something like this for my orks. I tend to run the super competitive dread mob (sarcasm), so stopping a turn of shooting could mean all the difference to my killa kans. Thanks for responding!
